How To Make Windows Start Faster In Local Area Network?

Whenever you start your computer, you are faced with a few moments of thumb twiddling while Windows boots and prompts you to log on. Although you should expect to wait for a few moments, sometimes Windows seems to boot rather slowly. In fact, you may notice that over a period of time the PC that used to roar to life seems a bit sluggish instead. Fortunately, you can perform several techniques that help Windows get the bootup speed you want.

When a PC is connected to Local Area Network, system follows update rules of Groups Policies during the startup. This causes the computer to starts up slowly and takes long time. To make logon faster these policies must be turned off so that computer does not waste its time in renewing the group policies.

This can be manually or automatically with a registry key.

Manual procedure:

1. Start the Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE – > Microsoft -> Windows ->CurrentVersion -> Policies -> System
2. From the menu choose Edit -> New -> DWORD Value and give name of SynchronousMachineGroupPolicy
3. Double-click the new value and the field DataValue type 0and click OK
4. Create another DWORD value and name it asSynchronousUserGroupPolicy and put the value to 0.
5. Restart your computer.

Automatic Procedure:
Download the zip file below and double click at tweak.reg , to enable tweak, and if you want to restore your default settings you have to launch tweak_restoreand registry entries are removed.

Note: Be sure that this tweak should not be applied where group policies are required to be updated at each startup.

BootVis : An Application That Improves Windows XP Boot Time

BootVis is a computer application that allows PC manufacturers to check how long a Windows XP machine takes to boot, and then to optimize the boot process, sometimes considerably reducing the time required. It was formerly a Microsoft product, but it is no longer available from the company's website.

BootVis defines boot and resume times as the time from when the power switch is pressed to the time at which the user is able to start a program from a desktop shortcut. The application measures time taken during Windows XP's boot or resume period. BootVis can also invoke the optimization routines built into Windows XP, such as defragmenting the files accessed during boot, to improve startup performance. This optimization is automatically done by Windows at three day intervals.

Note: The Bootvis.exe tool is no longer available from Microsoft.

How to fix the problem of "DVD Drive Not Found" in Windows 7 ?

In some cases the DVD drive may not be seen in windows 7 even if you can find it in the BIOS settings or by using the standard driver. There can be many reasons for this problem.

Causes/Reasons of DVD failures:

Hardware Problem:
Another potential cause of this issue is because of hardware problems. If the drive has suddenly stopped working then this is likely to be the cause. A DVD drive is quite a sophisticated piece of technology and there are many things which can go wrong with it.

It’s unlikely that you will be able to fix a broken DVD drive. These simply aren’t worth fixing because they are so cheap to buy at the moment. Simply buy a replacement drive and put it in your computer.

Driver Problems:
If you have just upgraded to Windows 7 from a previous operating system and the DVD drive has never worked properly then it is probably due to driver problems. A driver is a special piece of software which tells your computer how to control the hardware.

As almost every computer has a DVD drive as standard these drivers are normally included with a basic windows installation. If you suspect that this is the problem then you will need to download new drivers from the internet. It might also be possible to use the driver disk which were included with your drive.

Here is a simple fixes/solutions to it.

Method 1
Type regedit in the windows 7 start menu. The windows 7 registryeditor will open up.
Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass. Now in the right hand pane, delete both UpperFilters and LowerFilters (UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak entries can be ignored).

Method 2
If above method doesn't fix the problem, then next thing we can do is to change the drive letter of the DVD drive. For this Type Disk Management in the windows 7 start menu and press enter. You will see the Disk Management windows opening up. Now right click on your DVD drive in the bottom panel and select Change Drive Letter and Paths. Change the drive letter of the DVD drive to some other (If it was G change it to H or some other). Now Restart Your system. And Your DVD drive should be there. You may now change the DVD drive letter back to the previous one.

Xplorer² : A Free Windows Explorer Replacement (File Manager)

xplorer² (formerly 2xExplorer) is a dual-pane file manager for Microsoft Windows operating systems, developed by Nikos Bozinis (Nikolaos Achilleos Bozinis).

xplorer² is a desktop file manager combining the simplicity of windows explorer with the speed and efficiency of traditional dual pane orthodox file managers, helping you be productive with your documents, pictures, music, source code and other files.

It offers the functionality of orthodox file managers through an interface similar to the familiar Windows Explorer. Some of its features are tabbed file management within each pane, viewing and editing text files, searching for files using arbitrary criteria, the ability to compare and synchronize folders and the ability to perform queued or concurrent copy and move operations with error handling (Robust file transfer). The file finder module is claimed to be “outclass” from other search tools.

Apart from the commercial version of the program, there is also a version which is free for personal and academic use. Three features of the Professional version not present in the Lite version are advanced search (Omni-Finder), full Unicode support and robust transfer.

Note:
The free version is for private (home) or academic (school & university) and general non-profit use only. You cannot use it in any commercial context, including but not limited to: corporate, office, military, government etc. All commercial users must obtain a license for the full version.

Pngcrush : A Tool That Optimizes PNG Image Files

pngcrush is a free, open source command-line utility for optimizing PNG image files. It reduces the size of the file losslessly — that is, the resulting "crushed" image will have the same quality as the source image.

The main purpose of pngcrush is to reduce the size of the PNG IDAT datastream by trying various combinations of compression methods and delta filters. However, pngcrush can also be used for various manipulations of PNG images, such as changing the bit depth, removing unwanted ancillary chunks, or adding certain chunks including gAMA, tRNS, iCCP, and textual chunks.

Pngcrush is open source and may be used, modified, and redistributed by anyone without paying a fee. The license, embedded in the file pngcrush.c, is equivalent but not identical to the libpng license found in the libpng file png.h.

Skype Recorder : A Free Skype Recorder That Record Skype Calls And Saves To Gmail

With so many important calls being made through Skype these days, the ability to save conversations to your computer appears absolutely essential. Discussions of design or engineering concepts, opinions voiced during multi-user conference calls, project-related agreements, terms and a whole lot of other topics and things often expressed in voice should better be saved to a reliable archive, so that you can always find the necessary file and use it in an argument.

Unfortunately, Skype does not support voice recording "out of the box" and there are no plans to implement this feature in any form in the nearest feature. And that's exactly where Skype Recorder comes into play!

Unlike its competitors, Pistonsoft Skype Recorder allows you to record Skype calls and save recorded conversations both locally and in your Google Mail account . In both cases, audio logs are saved as compact high-quality MP3 files. When saving conversations to your Gmail account, the program labels them as "Skype History", so you can quickly select these messages from the entire message archive.

The use of a remote storage saves space on your hard drive and is 100% safe - the program establishes a secure connection with Gmail to submit every Skype history item. Having your Skype chat history files online enables you to access your audio Skype history journal from anywhere in the world in the 24/7 mode. You can also use a single Gmail account to serve as a storage container for multiple instances of Skype Voice Recorder and filter/forward incoming messages further. As an example, you can use the program to monitor your children's or employees' online chats and automatically receive complete voice logs to your inbox.

Pistonsoft Skype Recorder does not have any special requirements besides Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and the IMAP protocol being enabled in Gmail settings.

Send To Toys : An enhanced Send To System Menu

Send To Toys is a freeware tool that allows you to easily send your files anywhere within your computer, although the program lacks a help file for beginners. After installation, users can configure where they want files to be moved to. Afterward, the program creates a tabbed Control Panel applet allowing you to add and remove folders or programs in the Send To menu.

Send To Toys is an enhancement of the Send To system menu. It adds a Send To "Folder..." option to the right click menu, which allows you to select a folder and copy the file there. In addition, the "Send To Clipboard (as name)" copies the name of the file or files to the clipboard.

The program then sits idly by until you right-click a file or folder. It can then be accessed in the Send To menu. Move your files or folders anywhere you like: the Clipboard, the command prompt, the Quick Launch menu, the Recycle Bin, and the Run command dialog box.

It is easier to manage our files with this program, as it extends Send To menu capabilities. All users can try this application that simply extends the reach of the Send To menu.
