Folder2Iso : A Tool that Creates Iso Image Directly from a Folder

If you have saved your output files from DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 in a DVD folder - a folder with subfolders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and you want to convert that folder to an ISO and to be able to use ImgBurn for burning that ISO - you can now use the freeware tool 'Folder2Iso' to do this job.

There is no longer the need to redo the whole encoding process from scratch with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 and let that program output an ISO.

Folder2Iso is a free tool that can create an ISO image of the folder and its contents without the need to installation. Folder2Iso just creates an iso from any kind of folder (with the subfolders). The tool is quite small and can be run directly even from a USB drive.

Creating Iso images will come extremely useful to you if you want to preserve your important movies or games setup. What you need to do is just select the folder/files and create the iso image using this tool and burn it to the CD/DVD with any CD/DVD burner.

How to use the program?
  • Just press Select Folder and add your folder that you want to make iso. example : f:\movies\Matrix
  • Select the output path and add a name like test.iso. Please note that you can not save it at the same path of the step 1 . (choose something like : f:\movies\Matrix.iso )
Download Folder2Iso

ToolTipFixer : An Application That Fixes Windows’ Hidden Tool Tip

First, for those of you that aren’t familiar with ToolTipFixer, it’s a nifty “patch” for a very frustrating bug in Windows which winds up rendering tooltips behind the taskbar, leaving them unreadable and generally annoying the user to no end.

ToolTipFixer sits silently and invisibly in the background, intercepting this problem and fixing it as it happens – letting you read those tooltips and use your PC the way you should be able to.

Now for the good stuff: the number one request we’ve had was to eliminate the Microsoft .NET Framework as a requirement for using ToolTipFixer. As a matter of productivity and preference, Microsoft’s .NET Framework has a special place in our hearts, but we realize that many people would prefer something a bit… lighter and as such ToolTipFixer 2.0 has been rewritten from scratch in C++ with no dependencies – not even the MSVC++ runtime libraries.

TTF 2 has drastically improved memory management – it’ll take so little memory, you won’t even know it’s there (from 0.3 to 1.5 MiB in our extended testing, depending on OS and platform).

Then there are those 64-bit Windows users, and more of them than ever before. Just because you have 4+ GiB of RAM in that machine of yours doesn’t mean you can’t get rid of this bug too – ToolTipFixer 2.0 has full support for Windows XP/Vista x64!

And to save the best for last, ToolTipFixer can now be run in what we call “standalone mode.” During setup, you’ll have the option of either installing TTF the traditional way – as a system application sitting silently and invisibly in the background – or as a standalone module that you run only when you need it. Some people experience the tooltip corruption problem less often than others, and if it doesn’t bother you incessantly then you can choose to only run TTF when you need it!

Unknown Devices : A Tool That Helps to Solve The Problem Of Yellow Question Mark Shown In Device Manager

There are times when you upgrade the operating system on your computer or just did the fresh install of OS after a long time and then you realize that you don’t have the drivers for all the hardware connected to your computer like sound card, Ethernet card etc.

So, you see many devices like these in device manager unrecognized without any drivers. In such a case you can follow our tips on drivers like how to locate and download drivers for unrecognized devices, search for device drivers with hardware ids, update your drivers and how to backup or restore device drivers.

Today I will tell you about a free application called Unknown Devices which is used for the same purpose, it helps to find what those unknown devices in Device Manager really are and then you can better lookout for its drivers. It does this by checking Device Manager for unknown devices and extracting information from it.

It identify unknown devices not recognized by Windows in your system especially after you reinstall your system and cannot figure out what all those yellow question mark labeled devices really are.

It Help you search for workable drivers on the Internet. Driver backup is optional after you have all your device drivers installed.

By checking Device Manager for unknown devices and extracting information from it, Unknown Devices attempts to figure out what the device is. You might not have to open your case or look up random numbers off of PCI cards to figure out what they are.

This program is portable in nature, so it does not require installation it can from CD, USB drive or placed in any folder of your computer. The program contains no adware, spyware, malware, popups, or whatever is the latest name for junk software.

Note: It works Win95, 98, 98se, Me, 2k, XP and 2003 but not for windows 7 now, if you are looking for tool like this for windows 7 then check out unknown device identifier.

gifsoup.com : A Website That Convert YouTube Videos to Animated GIFs

Why would we want to turn a YouTube video into a GIF? Well, GIFs upload easily onto personal Web pages on places like MySpace. Instead of having to click on the entire embedded video and waiting for it to load, your followers will see the GIF as soon as they click on your page.

GIFs have limitations, though. Since a GIF is really just a series of images played in sequence, these images are often very large and may take time to load on slower internet connections. For this reason, GifSoup limits us to 15 second video clips.

The process to make a GIF is easy. First, paste a URL into the box under the words Create Animated GIFs from YouTube Videos. Then click the yellow button that says Create GIF.

The site then prompts you to register. If this is your first time using the site, you will need to create a user name and password. Click Register when you are finished.

Your video will then load into the video maker. You can play your video in the player at the top of the screen, then click the Start Time button to start recording frames for your GIF and the End Time button when you are finished. You can restart these multiple times, so making a mistake is not a big deal. Remember: you can only record 15 seconds.

Give your GIF a category and title. If you want to keep your GIF private rather than sharing it with other GifSoup members, put a check in the box next to Private. When you are ready, click Preview to view your GIF. Your GIF will appear at the bottom of the screen. If you like it, click Finish. Otherwise, you can keep playing with the start and stop settings until you do like it.

GifSoup then displays choices for using your GIF. You can give a direct link to the video, copy a code to paste the video in a forum, email or Web site, post the video directly to your favorite social networking site, or download it in either small or original size.

GifSoup does exactly what it claims to do. You can turn a YouTube video into a GIF in just a few seconds with little effort. While we struggle to think of a professional use for this (since there is no sound in a GIF, and GIFs have largely lost popularity in the past few years), it is fun to turn comical video into an animation to share with friends.

PenyuUSB : A Tool That Disable USB Mass Storage To Protect Your Windows PC

While USB drives are one of the most useful devices when it comes to data exchange, they are also a pain in terms of spreading viruses and data theft. This is especially problematic in college or office labs, where students or workers frequently exchange thumb-drives and use them on unprotected systems. One infected drive and the administrator has to spend hours of maintenance work on all networked PCs.

While it may not be possible to control the users’ behavior, it is very easy to control how your PC behaves. PenyuUSB is free software that allows you to disable or enable USB mass storage controller, hence preventing the drive from accessing the PC altogether. PenyuUSB is an easy to use application that was designed in order to help you protect USB storage drives.

It doesn’t mean that the USB will be blocked for everyone, the only exception being the people having the password required to access. This software can also be used to prevent data from being stolen using pen-drive. Only those authorised with password can manage the USB mass storage. The administrator can regularly change the password if necessary.

This software can also be used to prevent data from being stolen using pen-drive.

While this solution may not appeal to some users, you can always enable the USB function back, which can be password protected. The administrator can then share the password with authorized users. Using PenyuUSB, you can also prevent data theft.

NOTE: Free registration is required to receive activation code.

While very useful, this tool comes with a little bit of complication. Despite being free, it requires registration top activate the program. When unregistered, you have an ‘Enter Activation Code’ button available at the bottom of the screen. Clicking it will bring forth a dialog box where the unique registration number for your PC can be found.

Enter the required info and click the Send Online button. It will be received by the software’s developers, who will send you back your activation code. Also note that you will need to disable Windows User Account Control (UAC) in order to use this utility. Probably quite a serious drawback for some users.

Aside from this minor inconvenience, PenyuUSB can be really helpful in protecting your PC and data by safeguarding your system’s USB ports. It has been tested with Windows 7 32-bit and works well.

Here are some key features of "PenyuUSB":
· To enable and disable USB mass storage to avoid unauthorised use
· To avoid stolen of sensitive company data
· Password protected

The tool is free and simple to use. It can be downloaded easily from the link below.

Prio - Process Priority Saver : A Tool That Allows To Save The Priority You Specify For Any Process

Have you ever changed the priority of a process in the Task Manager?
Do you have to do it often?
Do you want your database server or media player to know the priority it should work with?

Prio - Process Priority Saver is a compact program that allows you to save the priority you specify for any process. Prio will save the applied changes and each time you start this process from now on, it will set the saved priority for it. You will not have to change the priority manually any more.

How to use?
Start the Task Manager.
Right-click a process and select Set Priority.
Set the priority you want for the process.

What is the priority of an application?
Windows is a multitasking system. It means that a lot of various applications are running simultaneously in it. You directly work with some of them, but some of them work invisibly and independently. The priority of an application is a parameter that tells the system which task has priority over other tasks. For example, if there are two programs that are running simultaneously and with the same priority, they will have equal shares of the processor time. But in case you set a higher priority for one of them, the program that has this higher priority will use all the free processor time while the one with a lower priority will use only the rest of it. For example, if you have an application for rendering a video clip running on your computer, it will use the free processor time sharing it equally with, say, Explorer. It will result in Explorer working jerkily... But if you set a lower priority for the rendering program, it will use only the time that Explorer does not need. Explorer will work more smoothly and faster. It is also convenient to set a higher priority for multimedia players - the playback will be smoother. If you have some database service running on your computer, it is useful to set a lower priority for it so that it does not interfere with the work of those applications you are using at the moment. You can change the priority of processes on the Processes tab of Task Manager. Prio automatically detects any changes in priority and saves them in its settings. Next time you start this application, its priority will be restored.

Dark Screen : A Tool That Dims Computer Monitor.

Some computer users experience problems with glare from the screen. It happens a lot while using the computer and especially in the Laptops that the glare of the screen feels very uncomfortable to the eyes. There was nothing much that we could do except to reduce the screen brightness, but what if the minimum level is already reached?

Dark Screen sits over all windows and provides a means of dimming the output between 20 and 90%. Dark Screen is multi monitor aware, and can be used on the main monitor only or all monitors. Everything is controlled from the icon in the Notification area of the Taskbar (where the clock sits). Clicking this icon will open the menu which allows the selection of Multi Monitor Support, and the percentage of dimming of the screen.

The tool is small in size and can be downloaded free.

SpyDLL Remover : A Tool That Remove Spywares From Windows 7

Spywares are pieces of malicious softwares or codes that try to steal your sensitive information like passwords, bank information, etc. And, we have rootkits too, they are even more serious threat, they can monitor your activities and steal the information to even bigger level.

Here, I am going to review a tool called SpyDLL Remover which is a lightweight and very well targeted DLL scanning tool which can scan for any spyware of infected code by canning the DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files running or installed on the computer. This tool is fully compatible with Windows 7 32bit and 64 bit editions.

One really nice thing about this tool is that it does not require any installation, its a simple EXE file which you can carry on Pen Drive or CD or DVD and run on any PC which you suspect is infected with some spyware / malware.

This is how the interface looks like:

The interface is simple and easy to use. Just run the tool and press “Start Scan” button on the tool, it will scan your DLL files for any malicious or suspected behavior.

It will show the results categories on a color coded scheme with different threat levels highlighted in different color.

The red ones are serious threats, the orange one are less severe and yellow one are mild. After scan is complete, you can check the information of the highlighted DLLs online and decide whether or not you want to remove the reported DLLs. It gives you options to remove the suspected / malicious DLL files.

The Process viewer tab on this tool allows you to see all the running processes and their corresponding DLL files and its details. click on the image below to see the detailed options at the bottom of this image which include : Remove DLL, Check Online, DLL Info, Process Info, Kill Process, Refresh, Export.

Another feature of this tool is the DLL tracer, this is very helpful if you want to know details of a DLL file in the extracted package of some software or otherwise. You can put the path of the DLL and SpyDLL scanner will trace the DLL and scan it.

AutoSizer : A Tool That Automatically Resize Programs

I’m sure there have been programs who’s windows just won’t retain the size that you want them to. Or maybe you want a program to automatically be minimized or maximized at startup, but it never seems to listen.

Whenever we open up an application it opens with the size it was closed but if you are required to change the size of the window quite often then this tool called AutoSizer is for you. AutoSizer is a free program that runs in your System Tray, and has an option to startup with Windows. The simple configuration screen shows a list of all your running programs, and you’ll have rules created for your favorite programs in no time at all.

AutoSizer remembers the size settings for each of your programs and opens it in the same size specified. For example if you wish to use Windows Media Player in a small window then this tool will run it in that size only whenever you start the player.

The tool works with most of the programs and also supports all versions of the Windows.

How To Redirect Folder to Control Panel ?

Is your PC used by many people at home or office and you need to secure the data? You can secure it by redirecting a folder to some other location (like Control panel). You can apply this redirection to any folder containing important files and folders using Notepad. This helps protect contents of a folder by redirecting it some other location instead of open folder’s actual contents.

How To Redirect Folder to Control Panel

1. Select the folder for which you want to redirect. For example, consider folder mine in the F:\ drive

2. Open Notepad and write ren songs songs.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

3. Now save the file as LOCK.BAT in the same drive as your folder.

4. Again open Notepad and type ren songs.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} songs

5. Save the file as KEY.BAT in the same drive.

6. To lock the folder, double click on LOCK.BAT file and then you will not be able to access the folder. Control panel will open instead the folder.

7. To unlock the folder, double click on KEY.BAT file an again you can have access to that folder.

Now keep the LOCK.BAT and KEY.BAT file at a secure place so that you only know where is the key to that folder.

How to Maximize Laptop Battery Backup?

With the rise in laptop sales it is essential for laptop buyers to make sure they use their laptop batteries to the fullest and also make sure they can achieve the highest performance with the available battery. Generally most laptops claim to have 4-6 hours of battery life but in real it comes to 50% of the promised backup time because of many factors like heavy laptop usage while on battery backup, running USB Based gadgets, CD/DVD ROMs etc. You also need to make sure about some battery life saving tips because the laptop batteries generally have a life of around 1000 recharge cycles.

Here is a list of some essential tips which can almost double your laptop battery life.

Screen brightness
Almost all laptops come with the ability to dim the screen brightness. Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance. The display system takes 50% of your available battery and lower brightness would ensure you more battery life.

Power Cord
Recharge your laptop using the power cord/adapter provided by the laptop dealer and don’t use any other local cord because they can decrease the life of your battery.

Remove Your Batteries When Not In Use
If you don’t use your laptop for a continuous period its recommended to remove your batteries completely from the laptop and add it back when you plan to use it. This is because laptop batteries have a limited lifetime and its generally 1000 charge cycles after which they stop offering complete backups. Even if it is not in use, the battery still drains, so you should completely remove it and store in a cool place and at a 40% charge rather than 100% charge.

Background Processes
When you are running your laptop on batteries, avoid heavy multitasking, because processor and ram will then need more power thus making your battery drain further.

Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi should be turned off when not in use because it drains your laptop battery in search of signals and wireless router. You can use the hardware switch available on the laptop to disable your wifi or disable it from the Network Connections option available under your Control Panel.

Disable Aero Glass
Disable Aero Glass Feature which comes preinstalled in Windows Vista. You need to right click on your Desktop > Preferances > View Colour > Appearance > Classic Appearance and Windows Basic graphical interface > Ok , this way you can get the classic appearance which has less resource using features and helps you use less battery power.

Heat Control
Your laptop operates more efficiently when it’s cooler. Clean out your air vents with a cloth or keyboard cleaner.

Optimize Power Options
Go to ‘Power Options’ in your windows Control Panel and set it up so that power usage is optimized (Select the ‘max battery’ for maximum effect).

No Multitasking
Do one thing at a time when you’re on battery. Rather than working on a spreadsheet, letting your email client run in the background and listening to your latest set of MP3’s, set your mind to one thing only. It is important to note that it is fine running an idle program at the background but if the program is constantly doing some work like downloading or extracting a Zip file, this is when the battery drains out.

External Drives
USB devices (including your mouse) drain down your laptop battery. Remove or shut them down when not in use. It goes without saying that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on battery, is a like putting a wood on fire.

Battery Recharge
Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery once every two to three weeks(2 weeks is recommended). Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge.

Hibernate Not Standby
Although placing a laptop in standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume where you left off, it doesn’t save anywhere as much power as the hibernate function does. Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down. Settings up Automatic Hibernate feature to make sure the laptop automatically saves all your running documents and applications, and hibernates when you are not using the laptop for a given amount of time is very important.

Clean Battery
Clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This keeps the transfer of power from your battery more efficient.

I hope you will be able to save your battery life using these steps, if I have missed anything important, do let me know with your comments.

VideoCacheView : A Tool that Extract videos from the browser cache and save them to the hard drive

You can spend hours watching videos on Youtube and other similar websites and having lots of fun, but what if you want to recover those videos later on? Sure, you can always search through your browsing history, but that takes a lot of time and it doesn't always work.

It's much easier to use VideoCacheView and let it recover all the videos you've watched online for you. This program analyzes your web browser's cache (from both Internet Explorer and Firefox) and extracts all the video files stored in it. You can then watch them again, as long as you have the right player. What's more, the program also includes a link to download the file to your hard drive.

VideoCacheView is great to review videos you specially enjoyed, but it does have some limitations: for example, videos are not always stored in cache while you play them online, which means VideoCacheView won't be able to recover them. Also, if you want to access the latest videos you've watched, you'll have to close the web browser.

Pros
Works with Internet Explorer and Firefox
Supports all video formats

Cons
Bear in mind that not all videos are stored in cache
Browser must be close before extracting latest videos

OS requirements for VideoCacheView:
OS: Win98/98SE/Me/2000/XP/Vista

Solution To : Incorrect Icon Shown for a File Type ?

Recently I received a query wherein the user had incorrectly associated .zip file type with Adobe Reader. The problem is that the .zip file type is still showing the Adobe Reader icon, although the association settings are correct.

And, one of my blog reader said he was facing this problem that even after changing the file association for some file the file showed different icon image.Despite changing the file association for the song file from windows media player to VLC player, his song file showed the same icon image as linked with the Windows media player.

Forcing A Refresh Of The Icon Cache
Usually, the icon should be refreshed after a restart. If that does not happen, you can force a shell icon refresh by performing a task that triggers the calling of SHChangeNotify API. For example, you can use the Default Programs applet and set Internet Explorer as your default browser, in order to refresh the shell icons. Follow these steps:

1. Click Start, Default Programs

2. Click Set your default programs

3. Select your web browser, email client or any other item in the list.

4. Click the Set this program as default button.

5. Click OK.

Check if the icon for that particular file type (eg .zip) is fixed.

More Information
Whenever the file association settings are changed or new association is created via the registry or script, the system might not be aware of the change unless the SHChangeNotify API is called specifying the SHCNE_ASSOCCHANGED event, or until the system is restarted.
